We originally planned to tether the goats to the fench around the property so they could munch our weeds all around the perimeter. Unfortunately, these goats did NOT like being tethered, so they ended up getting tangled pretty quickly. These past few weeks have really shown us how powerless we are to fight mother nature! In late May we had a strong wind storm that ripped up the landscaping fabric, which also uprooted several corn stalks and other seedlings. We thought maybe we could handle the Wyoming weather after all...until June 13th.

We are trying out three fields in our first planting season: Field 1 for perennials, Field 2 for vegetables, and Field 3 for grains. We are adopting a no-till approach, which involves a lot of manual labor with broadforking to turn the soil. Laramie, Wyoming has a very short growing season—approximately 90 days—so our planting schedule for the field has limited flexibility.
